Michael Servetus (Serveto) died a horrendous death in Switzerland (Champal) and when he and Calvin clashed on Godhead stances. Go online for more on Servetus and his execution : http://www.miguelservet.org/servetus/trial.htm The big question: What can we learn from this type of conflict? Can religious persecution ever be justified? The Calvin/Servetus conflict demands of us to approach this subject objectively and because the Trinity is so important to the majority of Churches still to this day, an unbiased approach to this conflict is hardly possible. This is the reason why Servetus is still, to this day, belittled in many ways. What we must always keep in mind is that Servetus was, unlike Calvin, a fugitive (virtually all the time) of the INQUISITION (!)..Briefly also dealing with the "Wederdopers" (Anabaptists) in former SA and the religious discrimination that was launched against them by the Calvinist leadership at the time - placing the focus on what can be learned from the past. Erratum: Footnote references to Beza - 2 and 6 and not Footnote 1 as is stated in the article.
